A Workspace is a local or cloud based integrated development environment. You create or open a workspace when you want to start doing some work. A workspace can be configured with different images, assets and compute resources. In simpler terms: a Workspace is a place where users can work with and/or on assets.
As the Asimovo platform itself, Workspaces can also be run either locally or on the cloud.
Workspaces can have one of the following three states: Started, Starting, Standby.
Started state means the hardware is being allocated to the workspace. The time this takes depends on the hardware chosen, and if a new hardware instance needs to be started. This can take a while if working in the cloud.
Once the Hardware has started the Workspace itself moves into "Starting" mode. This is when all of the tools are being opened. As default a workspace can have different tools such as simulation, sensor data viewer, file browser and code editor. For some of these tools you need to run start commands to activate.
Standby means that the workspace is "down", not running. This is the state you go to when you stop the workspace by clicking on End.
Users can not see and access the workspaces created by other users of a Project. To be able to share a workspace with other users, you need to convert it to an asset first. This can be done by clicking on the Save as workspace asset option in the tile of your chosen workspace in the My Workspaces page. Once a workspace is converted to an asset, it can be used as a template to create identical workspaces from it.
Just as assets, workspaces can also be managed in various ways, such as: creating, opening, downloading, sharing, duplicating, deleting and editing their metadata. For more information, see: Workspace management
Users can run simulations on the Asimovo platform with the use of workspaces. To start an existing workspace, click on "Open Workspace" in the tile of the workspace you would like to use.
Users also have the option to start a newly created workspace immediately by clicking on the "Save and open" button at the last step of the "Create workspace" flow.
